Roses 2015 is the largest inter-university sports varsity in Europe, between the universities of York and Lancaster.
From 24th-26th April, the red rose of Lancashire will travel to Yorkshire, where the white rose has been undefeated for three decades.
50 sports. 132 fixtures. Hundreds of competitors. Thousands of spectators. One trophy.
The rivalry between York and Lancaster has a long history, full of conflict. Stemming from the War of the Roses that caused decades of civil war in the fifteenth century, this fierce rivalry lives on in the form of the largest inter-university sports tournament in Europe.
50 sports. 132 fixtures. Hundreds of competitors. Thousands of spectators. One trophy. The history books record a narrow lead to York, possessing 25 overall Roses victories to Lancaster’s 24.
York has been a fortress for the past three decades, with the last away win for Lancaster a distant memory in 1985. Will 2015 prove any different? Will the Carter James Trophy be reclaimed for the White Rose? Or will the Red Rose of Lancashire finally break down the fortress built on Yorkshire soil?
This year #RosesAreWhite.
